Pets Are the Best
My first reaction was, 'Oh, who is this?' I gently picked her up and carried her to the couch, where we began playing. We've been buddies ever since. Mia, however, took a little time to warm up. She was cautious, observing this unfamiliar female in 'her' home.
The initial play with Mischief consisted mostly of gentle tug-of-war with a toy and soft conversation. Mia watched with a mix of curiosity and hesitancy, a natural reaction to a new animal. It took a couple of weeks of Mischief's 'adorable personality and boundless energy' for Mia to fully accept her.
Now, they're more or less inseparable. Mischief generally sleeps right next to Mia, or curled up with one of us. Mia has taken on a maternal role, teaching Mischief about sharing toys and the essentials of living in a home with more than one animal. She's a very good teacher, offering Mischief a toy and playing with her. They sleep either with me, or with Mom, usually together, but occasionally curled up with one of us.
